St. John Parish Seeks Contestants for Andouille Queen Pageants

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – The St. John the Baptist Parish Andouille Pageant Committee is currently seeking contestants for the 2018 Miss and Teen Andouille Queen Pageants. The Pageants are scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John Theatre, 115 West 4th St. in Reserve. This year’s theme is “Arabian Nights.”

The committee is recruiting girls for the Miss and Teen Division.  To be eligible for participation, contestants must be single with no children, a resident of St. John the Baptist Parish and between the ages of 13-16 for the Teen Division and 17-23 for the Miss Division, on the date of the pageant. The competition for each division consists of an interview and on-stage promenade. The Miss Division will include an on-stage question during the evening gown portion. The deadline to register for the Teen and Miss Andouille Queen Pageants is Monday, September 24, 2018. 

To enter, please download an application at www.andouillefestival.com or visit the St. John the Baptist Parish Office at 1801 W. Airline Hwy in LaPlace.  Applications can also be turned in at the Andouille Queen Informational Meeting, Monday, September 24, 2018.

Throughout the year, the Andouille Queens travel to many fairs and festivals promoting the St. John the Baptist Parish Andouille Festival. The queens will reign over the 2018 Andouille Festival October 19-21 as well as participate in various parish and community events as Ambassadors for St. John Parish. The Miss Queen will compete in the Louisiana Queen of Queens Pageant held in February of each year.

The Baby through Junior Miss Andouille Pageants will take place the following day on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the St. John Theatre. Contestants ages 6 months to 12-years-old are needed. Applications will be accepted up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time for each pageant category on October 14.

St. John the Baptist Parish - On Saturday September 23, the annual Andouille pageant with the theme of “Planes, Trains, Automobiles and Heels” was held at the St. John Theatre in Reserve. Janet Nelson, the 2016 Miss Andouille Queen, crowned Laeh Alexander of LaPlace as the 2017 Queen.  The 2016 Teen Andouille Queen, Kash’mir Foley relinquished her title to LaPlace resident, Patience Pray for 2017.

The 2017 Miss Andouille Queen is the 23 year- old daughter of Ericka Keller Pate and Lael Alexander of LaPlace. Laeh is a graduate of the Manship School of Mass Communication with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Minor in English. Laeh competed against three other young ladies in an interview, on-stage promenade, and on-stage question to capture the title of Miss Andouille.

The 2017 Teen Andouille Queen is the 15 year old daughter of Charles and Brandy Pray of LaPlace. Patience is a sophomore at Riverside Academy and is a Fellowship of Christian Athlete member, honor roll student, Taylor Scholarship award winner and a member of the Drama Club.

As Ambassadors for St. John the Baptist Parish, the Queens will represent the parish at a variety of local and state-wide functions, including the St. John Andouille Festival, scheduled for October 13-15. The new Andouille Queens will also visit their U.S. Representatives and Senators, other elected officials and other representatives throughout Louisiana.

Additionally, Laeh will travel to Washington D.C. to attend the Washington Mardi Gras Ball in January and tour historical sites such as Arlington National Cemetery and the White House. She will also represent the Parish at the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Queen of Queens Pageant next year. 

This year’s pageant theme celebrated the modes of transportation that have become way of life in St. John Parish. The pageant featured entertainment from the award winning competition team from Aimee’s Dance Academy, Queen Janet Nelson & Savannah Loupe and Megan Berthelot.

On Sunday, September 24, the Baby through Junior Miss Andouille Pageants were held at the St. John Theatre. Photos and winners will be posted on the St. John Parish website at sjbparish.com and Facebook page.
